While everyone knows that technology has changed our world, policymakers and education experts are still debating the value of social media in a modern day classroom. In a technology driven world, opportunities to educate children are arising everywhere. With the rise of social media and online learning, teachers need to strike a balance between using these innovative online tools and exposing them to inappropriate content and misuse.

In light of the labor battles brewing across the country, members and others interested in our organization have inquired about AAE's position on compulsory unionism, forced dues, strikes, and sick-outs.

Ms. Danielle Blakely, a teacher at the Ethical Community Charter School in Jersey City, was awarded a scholarship by the Association of American Educators Foundation to continue her education and pursue a special education certification. The funding will offset the costs of books and classes for the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program at Caldwell College. AAE Director of Professional Development Jill Newell was on hand to deliver her certificate personally.

International Summit on Teaching Profession Convenes in New York
Last week, the Department of Education hosted a two-day conference focusing on best practices in building a world-class teaching force. Held in New York City, the conference brought American teachers and administrators together with several foreign high-performing countries.
