Virtual Education on the Rise

With back-to-school season in full swing, this school year's increase in virtual education programs is noticeable almost nationwide. Currently, 40 states offer or sanction some type of online education for their students, with other states considering proposals ever legislation session. As we look forward to closing achievement gaps in the years ahead, virtual education advocates are calling online learning a solution for students and teachers alike.
 
iPad Catching on as Education Tool

Apple's innovative tablet computer, the iPad, has been on the market less than two years yet it is already making a splash on the education scene. Since its introduction, the touch-screen device has been purchased for use in thousands of public school classrooms and is being hailed as a convenient, hands-on alternative to traditional desk-top computers for students of all ages and skill levels.
 
Teachers Receiving Emails Mentioning AAE

It has come to our attention that some teachers, particularly in Nevada, have been receiving unsolicited emails that specifically mention the Association of American Educators.  These emails were not sent on behalf of the Association of American Educators, by any employee of the Association of American Educators, or by any of our state partners.  AAE supports the right for teachers to educate one another about professional association options and encourages word-of-mouth, but has not and does not send unsolicited emails.


 
No Child Left Behind Overhaul Taking Longer Than Expected

Last year, President Obama and his administration set a goal for Congress to overhaul the long-debated No Child Left Behind law by this summer. The 9-year-old law has seen its share of debate since the Department of Education issued their blueprint for change last spring. While the House has begun the process with a series of targeted bills, a bipartisan, comprehensive reform of the nation's most important federal education legislation still seems far from wrapping up, according to congressional insiders.

Calling a Truce With Your Textbook
