Stranger Than Fiction: Teachers to Carry Guns?

In the wake of the tragedy in Arizona and recent school shootings across the country, a debate over guns has started yet again. While commentators struggle to make sense of these horrible massacres, the teachers of these students often come forward to share similar stories of troubled and threatening students in their classrooms. On state senator in Nebraska believes he has found a solution, introducing a bill that would allow school administrators, teachers and security staff to carry concealed handguns in schools.
 
NEA Gives More Than $13 Million to Advocacy Groups and Partisan Politics

A recent report by the Education Intelligence Agency sheds light on the financial disclosures of the National Education Association in the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The analysis reveals that the NEA spent $13 million dollars of member dues on a wide array of left-leaning advocacy groups and charities.

Governors’ Tough Talk on Tenure

Last week in State of the State addresses in New Jersey, Idaho, and Florida, tough talking governors focused on education reform proposals all centered on eliminating tenure for public school teachers. With the issue of tenure making headlines lately, the support for elimination has been gaining steam nationwide.

I received an email over the break that started me thinking and also disappointed me. Basically, the email inquired about teacher training dealing with appropriate behavior and relationships between teachers and students. It was not the inquiry which was an issue for me.
