| StudentsFirst Expanding to Include Fellowships |

In a letter to her supporters about her new campaign, former Washington D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee indicated that StudentsFirst has seen a tremendous amount of support from everyday Americans looking to make a difference in education. “Thousands of people like you have already stepped up to do their part - writing to legislators, talking to friends about StudentsFirst and attending events and rallies nearby,” Rhee said. “It's thanks to you that we have seen education reform legislation pass in Florida, Idaho and Indiana, and move forward in Georgia, Michigan and Ohio. More states are on the way.” After seeing the support from Americans from all walks of life, a fellowship program of teachers would be a natural progression, according to Rhee. This new highly selective program is designed to provide a platform for exceptional teachers and proven education leaders to make a difference in education. “StudentsFirst Fellows will represent the next generation of education entrepreneurs, innovators and reformers in dramatically transforming America's public education system,” Rhee explained. The StudentsFirst fellowships and senior fellowships are part-time, one-year professional development programs in which fellows hone their skills, broaden their experience, and contribute to the organization in a variety of policy, research, and communications capacities. Applicants must be current teachers or involved in education with impressive credentials. These positions would be a great opportunity for teachers passionate about education reform to get the word out to policy makers across the country. Michelle Rhee and StudentsFirst certainly have a broad national platform. Any fellow selected would undoubtedly become a leader in the movement.
