Clark County Educator Receives Classroom Grant
Las Vegas— John Hinton, a Sierra Vista High School teacher in Clark County, was recently awarded a $250 mini-grant by the Association of American Educators, a nation’s largest non-union professional educators’ association, and its local chapter, the Professional Association of Clark County Educators (PACCE). The grant will be used to purchase films and literature to facilitate classroom instruction to explore the diversity of culture in the West.
“The textbook treatment of minorities in the West is woefully inadequate,” noted Mr. Hinton. “This award will particularly serve to allow the students to produce meaningful interpretations of American western history.”
PACCE provides scholarships and mini-grants to teachers in Nevada twice a year. Both members and non-members are eligible although members are given preference. The next deadline for scholarships and mini-grants is April 1, 2008. More information can be found at clarkcountyeducators.org.
“PACCE is pleased to present this award to Mr. Hinton,” said Gary Beckner, AAE’s executive director. “We are glad to reward teachers for their hard work and creativity in the classroom.”
The Professional Association of Clark County Educators (PACCE) is Nevada's premier professional teachers’ association that advances the profession through personal growth, professional development, teacher advocacy and protection, as well as promoting educational excellence, so that educators receive the respect, recognition and reward they deserve. PACCE membership is only $180 a year and is open to all employees of education institutions.
